Objects

I have chosen several different objects and items for my duck and dinosaur to jump over and I have made some clouds to move slowly behind in the background helping to show movement.

I wanted the items that they will be jumping over to be outside things, so I have picked a rock, log, cactus, a bench, plant pot and a gnome. I wanted them also to be interesting things thats why I picked a range of different garden and outdoor items.

Starting

I have started to put together my animation on after effect. I have so after done about 8 seconds and thought I'd export some so I could see how it looked when rendered and on a bit of a bigger screen.

I'm happy with the bit I have don't so far, I still need to work on the log part and I think the dinosaurs legs to give the impression its moving along. I think I need to also make the ducks head move up and down giving it a bit more life.
On my animation I have only just put my music on just to give me an idea, it is not yet in the right place.

Feedback

I have received the feedback from my storyboard assessment and feel I made the right idea to change my original idea and use after effects. Also in my feedback it said that I need to make my animation a bit more interesting and I feel that making it into a chase rather than a race has done that.

Old Idea

Because at first I wasn't very confident with after effects I created this which I thought about using from my final animation when I was going to do stop motion, I'm proud of was I created and I managed to get my music to fit nicely with the movements.

Change

After having all the after effects sessions and seeing what I could be able to do and create, I have chosen to use after effects for my animation. I have also changed my story board as I feel this new idea will fit with after effects well and should give me a good final out come.

Storyboard

This is my new storyboard. I thought about what I'd be able to do using after effects, and decided to have my duck being chased. In my actually animation it will be the dinosaur and not a ball. Using the pin technique I'll be able to move the dinosaurs legs and body and using the other animation techniques I will be able to move different things along the floor for the duck to jump, and everything will easily be animated and hopefully I wont get stuck to much with my new idea.

I have decided to make my background and trees from collage to an a different depth and texture to my animation. I think it will work well with my idea and my general theme. For the items that they will be jumping over I think it will be a mix of images and also collage. 

After Effects Workshop4.

In our final after effects workshop we learnt how to move about text and also shapes, along a motion sketch and path. We also added the lighting effects on to our final small animations.

After Effects Workshop3.

In this work shop we learnt how to make an image look 3D, we also used the camera on after effects and the light helping to give our image depth and atmosphere. We used a photograph of spiderman and we first had to remove him from his original background meaning we could make him  3D and move his separately from the background.
Like my character animation this one I was unable to save properly, but have the spiderman image and my edited background.

After Effects Workshop2.

In our second work shop we learnt about 'parenting' and 'pinning'. These to different things can help you to move a 'character' in different movements to what you'd like them to do. I thought this skill would be good and is very effective if used in the right way. So this have started to make me think about my final animation and whether I might change from stop motion to creating an animation on after effects.
I was unable to save these properly but this was the character we where given to use.

After Effects Workshop

I have not used after effects before so having the workshop helped me to understand what I could create if I used this software. In our first workshop we made a little bird move across the screen over a background. At first I thought the software would be very complicated but after playing around I think I got the hang of the basics.

Sound

I need to make sure that I get the right section of the music to make sure that it fits with my video. I have chosen a section in the music at changes from the jagged starting sounds of the music to the smoother softer sounds. I wanted it to be like this so there is a change from the race to the winners rejoice so there is a definite change in feeling about the animation.

Dino Test

I just wanted to see how the dinosaur looked with I would make it move and see how big the movements needed to be so I did a little test video.

This is the little duck that I'm also going to be using in the animation.

New Narrative and Storyboard

I have thought about my narrative again because my original idea did work with the music. My new idea is to have 2 small toys a duck and a dinosaur having a race along the kitchen table. The finish line will be salt and pepper grinders and the crowd will be other toys and an egg in an egg cup. Working with the kitchen theme.

 I feel this idea will fit with my music more as the sounds make me think of running and movement more than anything else. Also my first thought when getting this brief was that I wanted to do something funny and something people will enjoy to watch.

Tools Stop Motion

I created my stop motion following my second key frame storyboard. After doing it I realised that it didn't really have an ending and I didn't feel it fitted perfectly with the music and think I could do something better that would fit with the music I have been given... So back to the drawing board.

Storyboard Issues

After looking at my storyboard I have worked out that I have done far too many key frames for the amount of time I have available. So I have shorten my storyboard and now have only 6 key frames rather than 12.

Narrative and Storyboard

Narrative

I have come up with my final idea, going a long with the mechanical sounds and also the feeling of movement within the music. I'm going to go with Idea 2 of having tools move around the shed and forming shapes or a robot and then moving back into the tool box.
I feel this idea will work with my music and will flow well together which is what I want and make sure that everything flows and looks smooth.

Storyboard

I have created my storyboard with my 12 key frames. Some of the key frames I might miss out depending on how quickly I'm able to do the other frames. As I only have a max of 30 seconds, I might not be able to fit in all of the different shapes I'd like the tools to do. But this is a general idea. I'm also thinking about changing the backgrounds like for the fish having blue background and so on, this will also help with making the tools look like they are moving and making the fish move along.

Narrative Ideas

I have started to think about ideas and see what I think will fit with my music. My music is very up beat and gives the feeling a movement and has a very mechanical sound. I want my animation to be exciting and with a little comedic value. 

Idea 1: Tools moving and leaving a tool box.

Idea 2: Tools moving to come together to form a robot.

Idea 3: Having a person jumping in the air and moving long but in the air.

Idea 4: A person moving along, stop motion movement. 

Idea 5: A race between two people or objects. 

Light Painting

I have tried out light painting as another medium of animation. Its something I have wanted to try, I'm not to sure that it will fit with my music because its very mechanical but I would still like to give it a go.

Stop Motion 2.

I have worked on another stop motion this one involves fridge magnets. When doing this is didn't realise that I was slightly moving the camera a little and I think I needed more of a narrative for it, so it had a little more of a direction. I want to add some music to some of my animations to before doing my final animation so I don't struggle when coming to it.

With this animation the over all speed is too slow and I need to work on not moving the camera better narrative and having some music.

My second video I worked on my narrative and overall idea more. I'm really happy with this one and has helped me to think more about my final one.
