Final Design

My final self promotion packaging:

I'm very please with my final go come, I think it represents me well.

Hand Drawn type

I have tried to think about each of my key piece of information and think about what the words would/should look like. I have decided to change one of my words from 'packaging' to 'typography' because I feel that fits well with my work, but they are both very important part of graphic design to me.

Logo

After having a re think on my packaging I have done the same with my logo. I needed to make my logo look for refined and less hand draw to make it look more professional.

These are the 3 final designs I chose. I tried them in pink as I wanted it to stand out more compared to having them simple and not standing out. I wanted them all the link together as well because its gives the feeling of trust and it feels very positive due to the curves.

I chose this for my final logo because it works well together and have a very warm positive feeling, I have pick to have it in pink because I want to make sure I stand out again everyone else, I feel that black is very simple.

Hand Draw Type

From having my meeting with my tutor his said that I should look into hand draw type more if it was something I wanted to do on my final piece instead of the computer font. And the way I have created my words at the moment look rushed and messy. I'm looking into different hand draw type and how I can use that in my final piece for my 4 key pieces of information.

From looking at these hand drawn types I think I need to make you the lettering fits the words. So the word and lettering is one, each word should have a different type face.

Self Promotion

Designers self promotion

Self promotion is very important when you are trying the get your self out there. Self promotion helps to show companies and agencies what you're good at and might have over other candidates. These are a few examples.

This guy chose to work with the idea that people in offices drink tea and coffee so his promotional piece was a box of tea of coffee and once the outside wrap was taken off you could then see his self promotional ideas and what made him stand out. People like to read something when their having a tea or coffee so this was a good way to make people read about him!

Steven Cavanagh has gone for a unconventional way of self promotion by creating little paper aeroplanes, working with the idea of being successful and a 'high flyer'. I think this is very interesting and if you received that you'd defiantly look at it.

Business cards are a good way but can be a bit boring. These designers have played with the idea of a business card and made them more exciting, detailed and intriguing.

I have decided after taking time to look at other peoples work that mine does need to be a lot more refined and clean cut. But also I want to think about how I'm going to display my 4 key pieces of information and my logo. I feel I need to rethink how I'm presenting it at the moment.

Refine

After talking to my tutor the outcome was that I need to refine my final piece much more. He said that my logo research in my book was good I should look into that more and maybe hand draw type if I didn't want to use an original font. Also I need to look into different designers self promotion just to get a bit more of a clearer idea of the task and finally to make my final piece look more final instead of a prototype so I should go back to the laser cutter.

Development

After creating my net and then making it, I have decided that the font I originally chose for my final piece isn't right a doesn't work well with the rest of my packaging. I want it to have a slit homely and handmade feel to it as that's something I want to come across to my audience, so I chosen to hand write my words and then scan them into the computer and put them onto my net that way instead. I shall be keeping my original net so I can then decide once the new one is complete if it does look better.

For putting this net together I also found that the inner coloured triangles are too small and need to be wider and longer otherwise they are just engulfed into the pyramid and don't make any impacted.

I cut out the sides of my pyramid to see whether that would help making it too more interesting and intriguing, but I think cutting out all 3 sides was a bit too much but if only one side was cut out would you make it a feature piece.

Final Net

From the development of my nets I decided that I liked the hooked pyramid the most. Its very different to all the other shapes as is a bit more interesting than a simple box.
I then developed that shape by adding on my sessions to work on the 'opening experience'.

I have chosen to have 3 inside triangles curved in the middle of the pyramid which will cross over and shall have 3 of my 4 pieces of information, these triangles will have to be moved and played with so you are able to see the information. Then in the centre on the pyramid on the base on the inside there will be a movable triangle which is a jigsaw and shall have my logo on. Under this on the bottom of the pyramid will be my last piece of information which can only be revealed when the jigsaw is removed.

Once I had created my hand draw and made design I needed to start and create my net on illustrator.
